This book who died on 13th November 1977 at the age of 43, gave himself totally for the deprived people of Calcutta. His work became known worldwide and an inspiration to Christians everywhere. Vicar of Calcutta Cathedral, he was an outstanding priest, with a lively and penetrating mind, who believed his cathedral existed for the city. From the cathedral a round-the-clock program was developed, from the dawn milk round for the children of the bustees, through to Operation Twilight to reach those sleeping on the pavements. Christian Aid, CMS, USPG, Bread for the World and other Bodies support this work but all along it has been an Indian initiative and run by Indians. Subir Biswas was the visionary and the driving force, inspiring and expanding the team and utterly spending himself in the work.
